    Story Behind the Song
Brad - You'll Find Your Way Home was the third song that we wrote together. The music and melody for this song was actually written back in '95. I was home alone working in the studio one evening - my wife and kids were at RE [Religious Education classes at church]. I was playing my acoustic guitar and singing scat parts - actually jamming with myself with a four-track Tascam 234 deck rolling. The song just happened. When I gave the song to Anna years later, she wrote lyrics for it very quickly. The lyrics are perfect for the song, and this song is still one of my favorites. When we starting putting the tracks down on the ADATs, we found that the key was not right for Anna, so I had to start over and re-adapt some of the acoustic guitar parts for the new key. As it turned out, the key change inspired me to create the acoustic guitar/piano solo in the middle. The bass part really grooves, and You'll Find Your Way Home is one of Anna's best vocal performances.

Anna - After recording a couple of songs, Brad and I determined that we were on to something special. Brad gave me a tape of a song that would become You'll Find Your Way Home. By this time, I was excited and inspired by the prospect of creating more songs. I immediately went to work on the song, and it came together much more quickly than any of us expected. The premise of the lyrics was derived from an argument that my husband, Jeff, and I had had back when we were dating, years ago. Of course, as a spatting couple, the first impulse may have been to "jump in your car and speed away." But we did "find our way home" and have stayed there for many years.

Jump in your car and speed away
You can't escape what we must face
    The reason to begin again

The things you said to me last night
Touched off a spark inside my heart
That sent our love into spin

    Where has our love gone
    Slow down 'til we know
    Please don't drive too long
    You'll find your way home

We've got to come to terms at last
And put aside the hurtful past
Our love will shield us from the pain

I'll be here 'til you think it through
Let's find a way to start anew
We'll steer away from giving in

    Where has our love gone
    Slow down 'til we know
    Please don't drive too long
    You'll find your way home

Just hit the brakes and turn the wheel
The love awaiting you is real
    Come back to stay
    You'll find your way home

A beam of light shines through the blind
A motor stops my heart unwinds
    You're in my arms
    You found your way home
