Story Behind the Song
In the book of Matthew - chapter 16, verse 13, Jesus asks His disciples 'Who do you say I am?' ... it was Simon Peter who replied 'You're the Christ, the Son of the living God.' ... and ... well, if you're familiar with the story, you'll know that *that* was a rather significant moment in History.
I thought about what it was like for Simon Peter ... meeting Jesus ... being in His presence ... and then having to face Him and honestly answer that question! It occurred to me how amazing it is that, even after 2000 years, this question still gets asked everyday ... and with all that in mind, I sat down and, over a 3-day weekend in Nashville (back in 1981), wrote this song.

Lyrics
Words & Music by Alan Horvath
Who do you say
The Son of Man is?
Some say John the Baptist ...
Others say Elijah ...
Still others, Jerimiah ...
Or one of the prophets ...
But I pose the question today, now
Who do you say He is?
The sun was blazing down
On another working day
The strangest voice rang out
As I cast my net on the lake ...
He was saying ... "Come and follow me ...
I'll make you a fisher of men."
He spoke with such authority,
I just left my nets and ran ... to Him.
Who is this man amongst us?
I looked in His eyes and I saw the Living God ...
And I just know He's gonna ask me
To confess what I believe about Him ...
What will I do when He does?
And what will I say when the time is hear?
But's it's here ... yes, it's here
Wo-ooh-oh, it's time.
Who do you say
The Son of Man is?
Some say John the Baptist ...
Others say Elijah ...
Still others, Jerimiah ...
Or one of the prophets ...
But I pose the question today, now
Who do you say He is?
Oh, I really want to say it ...
But I don't know if I can.
Ooh, I really want to say it ...
But I don't know if I can.
Oh, I don't care, I don't care,
I don't care what anyone says ...
I don't care, I don't care,
I don't care what anyone says ...
He's the Christ - the Son of the Living God.
Now, two thousand years have gone by
It's another working day ...
Some would rather let it lie ...
But the question still remains:
Who do you say ... He is?
