Story Behind the Song
Written in the middle of May and built around the chorus, which I wrote down quickly on a little piece of paper during a French class in early April and placed in my coat pocket.
Lyrics
My days are long and my nights are warm
but I'm all alone sometimes
But it happens, I'm used to it
Well, I don't need you, I've lived without
someone many times before
but if you want to you can be there for me
But don't tell me that you will
and then leave me to it
to face this on my own without you
and leave me by myself
all alone and crying
Don't feed me false promises
But if you can give me this
then I will give you everything you want
and everything you need
But if you can't give me this
then just leave me now because
I just couldn't take it if you fell through for me
Everything you do, it makes me wish that you were near me, but
I won't be your 3-1-5 girl
So if you just say that you'll stay
I swear I will believe you
but just don't give me any lies
Because I want you here with me
if you want to be there
I'm better with you than I am without you
So please tell me that you will
it's all hazy now
but don't feed me false promises
But if you can give me this
then I will give you everything you want
and everything you need
But if you can't give me this
then just leave me now because
I just couldn't take it if you fell through for me
