As with so many of my pieces, this ended up being about something I didn't at first recognize. My parents divorced when I was 18. This is how I imagine it to have been from my Mother's point of view. |
CD: Love Me, Love My Arm
Credits: Written, performed and produced by Bob Ritchie |
Story Behind the Song
We were rehearsing. The vibe was there. A sizzling in the air that made everyone's hair stand on end. The singer needed a break. So we started to jam on something I made up on the spot. "Hey! Cool! Let's make a song out of it."
Well, the band has long since broken up, but the song remains. Our singer--a woman--also plays the flute, so I wanted to feature that.
As to the story, I can't expand much on what I wrote above except to say that waking up can be difficult. I know it was hard Mom. But I think you did the right thing. For everyone involved.
Lyrics
I grab my bag,
Open up the door
The sidewalk’s still
Damp from the night before.
As I turn
My head away
I see your eyes;
I hear you say,
“How did we drift apart?
“Our love was true,
“From the heart.
“Why oh, why must you go?
“I love you so!” He says,
“I love you so!”
The trees move,
In the humid air that
Blows my hair
Into my eyes.
I’m blinded by the tears that I cry.
The trees move,
In the humid air that
Blows my hair
Into my eyes.
I’m blinded by the tears that I cry.
That I cry.
Mmm mmm.
That I cry.
At an all night supermart
I buy some coffee and
Think about how I should start.
I’m not running away,
I’m just following my waking heart.
Not running away,
Just following,
Following my waking heart.
