Story Behind the Song
"Take It Off" was written for the movie "Stripped," a moving documentary about 5 New Jersey go-go dancers by director Jill Morley. Morley asked DeSalvo to write "an aggressive song for strippers to dance to who are sick of stripping" and the result was "Take It Off."
Lyrics
Take It Off
(D. DeSalvo)
Say you want to be someone
Or find out who you are
You can always buy…you can always buy some time with a g-string and a smile
Bend your knees low
Put your hands on your thighs
Roll your hips from side to side
And let your mind fade away
Take it off, Take it off
And you’re gonna find that freedom
Take it off, Take it off
And you’re gonna find your way home
Bet you never knew
That shaking on a stage
Was a great way, was a great way
To disappear, to disappear…
Suddenly the air
Isn’t hot and smoky
It’s cool and clear, it’s cool and clear
And you’re not here
Take it off, Take it off
And you’re gonna find that freedom
Take it off, Take it off
And you’re gonna find your way…
Take it off, Take it off
And you’re gonna find that freedom
Take it off, Take it off
And you’re gonna find your way home
Take it off, Take it off
And I’m gonna find that freedom
Take it off, Take it off
And I’m gonna find my way, find my way
find my way, find my way
