First half features a piano solo that builds in intensity. Second half changes character, with a rock groove, a fretless bass solo, and drum solo, all over a piano vamp. |

Story Behind the Song
This song was written as a Christmas present for a very special lady who became my best friend and traveling companion. The opening section is in the key of D(Beth's special key) and is plaintive, yet urgent, in nature. The second and closing section moves to the key of A and utilizes a four-bar gospel-type vamp in the piano (one of my favorite devices) which serves as a springboard for a playful fretless bass solo and a Virgil Donati-inspired drum solo. The repeated ostinato pattern represents Beth's life force -- always present and enduring. The second section is meant to evoke a feeling of joy and rejuvenation as all the previously introduced elements come together at the end of the piece to paint a complete musical picture -- the fulfillment of the soul's journey.
