"The Farewell" is the sixth and final movement of a work entitled "Domestic Suite: Scenes and Memories from Childhood" written during the spring of 2001. It represents a sad and thoughtful reflection of one who looks back on one's life and regrets that their precious youthful "era" has come to an end. |

Story Behind the Song
"The Farewell" is a song of valediction that depicts my own experience of having to leave behind one's own youthful innocence. It portrays a looking back and bidding a sad farewell to childhood. Thus, the whole suite has come to be for me an attempt to recover life as it used to be when everything was innocent, fresh, safe, untouched, and protected. The Farewell pays homage to a time that can never occur again and represents a melancholy and deep nostalgia for the innocence of youth.
