Pop song performed by a virtual "band". It's early morning, you've been driving for 12 hours, have coffee in hand, eyes focused on the road and your head is occasionally wandering to the fringes of another reality.

    Story Behind the Song
I was in an 80's cover band, and we played a college gig in Pittsburgh. We were heading back to Chicago after the show, about a 6 hour trip, and I was riding shotgun. My job was to keep Charlie awake who was driving, while Dave and Mike crashed in the back. I had about 3 cups of coffee, 2 diet cokes, and a tin of Altoids on the ride home. As the sun rose behind us (I know, it rises in front of me in the song, it just worked better) I felt more awake on a spiritual level. At the risk of sounding cheesy, I felt closer to God and better connected with the universe. Must have been all that open space out there in Indiana. Through all the spiritual stuff, I had one thing on my mind. Crawling into the bed Julie was keeping warm for me! It was my turn to drive. With a fresh cup, I threw some change into the toll basket knowing I was a little closer to that warm bed.

    Lyrics
    VERSE 1
    a dark highway
    the radio plays
    through night time daze
and hours till I see her face
    with blood red eyes
    I drink my joe
    I don't have to buy
    or sell my soul

    CHORUS 1
I throw my change at 4 AM
    and I'm wide awake
I travel through a lonely world
    and I'm wide awake
I'll drive all night 'till I'm in her bed
    and I'm wide awake

    VERSE 2
    I face the dawn
between us the road still hums
    and I can taste it
    upon my tounge

    CHORUS 2
the sun is rising in front of me
    and I'm wide awake
    yeah, peace and love
    between God and man
    and I'm wide awake
I'll drive all night 'till I'm in her bed
    and I'm wide awake

    CHORUS 3
I throw my change at 4AM
    and I'm wide awake
I travel through a lonely world
    and I'm wide awake
the sun is rising in front of me
    and I'm wide awake
I'll drive all night 'till I'm in her bed
    and I'm wide awake
