Story Behind the Song
I was waiting for this bar to open when a guy pulled a knife on me because I wouldn't give him a cigarette. I slipped around him to the back door of the bar and got in and started drinking beer at 10 AM with my buddy Ted T. An hour later I went home and wrote the song in one sitting.
Lyrics
Cadillac Jack rolled into town, it was a Saturday afternoon,
Slammed his money down on the bar of the Old Pickle Barrel Saloon,
Me and Ted T. just sat there grinning ‘cause we knew what was coming to pass,
Cadillac Jack drank himself silly getting ready to kick some ass.
Drop Dead Suzy was a chorus line girl, Cadillac said she was his,
She blew into the bar about a quarter past 2 & ordered a Sloe gin fizz,
They stared each other down with daggers in their eyes ‘til the clock in the corner struck 3,
Cadillac Jack pulled out his pistol and said, “Suzy, you’re coming with me.”
This town’s gonna light up tonight like the sky on the Fourth of July
If you see that Cadillac coming you better let him pass you by,
This town’s gonna light up tonight, you’ll never know the reasons why,
So if you see that Cadillac coming you better let him pass you by.
Cadillac Jack was the meanest man living, everybody knew it was true,
Killed 3 men in a barroom brawl with his bare hands in ’92,
Made his living running guns & slinging cocaine & it paid for the sheriff’s new car,
You looked the other way or you pushed up daisies in Cadillac Jack’s graveyard.
Suzy said, “Jack, I’m through with you, I’m tired of you pushing me around,
I’ve got a new man and he’s waiting for you and he says he’s gonna gun you down.
So if you will, step into the street, you’ll find him waiting there,
And I’ll laugh with the Devil over your grave every day of my life, I swear.”
Cadillac Jack laughed out loud & said, “Yeah, I’ll meet your man.”
Slammed down a whiskey & he walked to the door with his pistol in his hand.
‘Cause Cadillac Jack was as tough as they come, that’s what everybody said,
& Suzy just laughed like the Devil herself when she shot him through the back of the head.
Now the graveyard’s quiet and the worms grow fat on Cadillac Jack up there,
Suzy just laughs at the prison walls while she’s waiting for the electric chair,
& Me and Ted T. laugh over our beers every Saturday afternoon,
We talk about the weather and the women and such at the Old Pickle Barrel Saloon
