Story Behind the Song
A friend was “rolling her own, wink, wink!! and doing a miserable job, and I remarked “I’m going to send you back to Hippie School”. That stuck in my head and eventually became a song.
Lyrics
Back To Hippie School
Words and music by Steve Darr
You forgot how to rock, you forgot how to roll
Did you lose yourself? tell me that it isn’t so
Lately you’ve been out of sorts, the world won’t go away
Your hitting on somebody’s wife, they’ll sure be hell to pay
Your hair is gray and thinning, your kids are smoking pot
Your rolling days are over, you’ve lost coherent thought
I’m gonna send you back to hippie school
Bring your flowers and love beads and your incense too
Back to the garden on the hill with the fool
Gonna send you back to hippie school
You used to be so mellow, true believer all the way
Now your stock is up on Wall Street, your life’s a caberet
Your wife’s got a Mercedes, to keep her satisfied
But she’s still staying out all night, looking for her life
Don’t tell me you forgot, that all we need is love
The world has changed it’s all deranged with no help from above
I’m gonna send you back to hippie school
Bring your love and your peace and your Mojo too
Back to the garden on the hill with the fool
Gonna send you back to hippie school
Bridge
You forgot how to rock you forgot how to roll
Did you find yourself, did you find your soul?
Do you ever stop and think, was I really there?
When we were dancing in the moonlight and love was in the air
When it’s all said and done, and you’ve regained your cool
You’ll be glad I sent you back, back to hippie school
