Story Behind the Song
We were recording "The One That Got Away" and Tommy said he had a crazy idea. He asked if I knew how 'Sypmpathy for the Devil' starts with the congas. I said "Yeah...." He said we should try the same thing for drums on this the first verse of this track, except this time we'll put it to 11. Like, imagine a big tribal meeting somewhere, with log beating and a boiling cauldrun and fires and many tribes dancing in the night....
Well, we already had a slamming drum track from The Mighty Joe Vitale, but I said sure let's try it. So we started beating on road cases and he was on congas and we added all sorts of stuff. Rick DeLima the engineer caught it all and when we were done he had it sounding real real big. So big in fact that it was a little anti climatic when the regular drums came in. So we were going to scrap it until someone had the idea to use it as an intro. So, Tommy got out an acoustic and a slide and did a Robert Johnson style thing and I made up some lyrics. We did one take and I started laughing, so I figured we wouldn't keep it, but, it was so silly we had to include it as a bonus.
Lyrics
Woke up this mornin' she'd gone away
She packed her bags without a word to say.
That little girl and me, now we fall apart.
I promise that I wouldn't never break her little heart
She's the one that got away uh-uh-uh-uh-uh
The one that got away uh.uh.uh-uh.uh.
Yeah, sh'wa'one'nat got away uh-uh.
Yeah sh'wa' one 'nat got away heheā¦
I don't know man, that ain't gonna work-
