    Story Behind the Song
This song was first conceived in 1996. I was embittered and disillusined with my personal life. It explores the exasperation over a failing relationship. I did't know what I was going to do for a lead until I had to record it. This interesting harmony came about incidentally. I double tracked the lead all the way through. It's a strange bluesy double stop thing that just happened (as all my recordings tend to). When I played the first phrase heard in the intro I knew I had a sound I wanted. It's whistful, sad, hopeful, haunting and at moments jubilant. A pretty good representation, I think, of the labile emotional roller coaster one goes through when a relationship fails.

GUITARS: Defil - Rhythm and Lead

    Lyrics
Tell me where we go now
From this thing that we've become
    Your silence can be haunting
When I don't know where you stand.

    Tell me 'bout the choices
That you're too afraid to make
    I'll tell you 'bout commitment
And the price I had to pay.

I never thought that keeping score
Went hand in hand with love
    But bitterness and anger
Got a chain around my heart.

You say it will get better
But it gets worse with every day
Every man will have his limit
    I don't know how much I'll take.
