In the musical tradition of Buganda, the
madinda (xylophone) may be played both as a
solo or as part of a bigger ensemble. In the
case of the latter, two styles referred to
as madinda and kadinda may be used in the
rendition. When played as a solo, a style
referred to as 'ssekinnoomu' is used.
Tonight, Sumita Pennathur demonstrates this
ssekinnoomu style characterized by the
establishment of the main theme, followed by
multiple multi-directional improvisational
variations - all at the direction and
control of a single performer. | MP3.com CD: UMEWA Live! - buy it!
