Story Behind the Song
From the cradle to the grave, I know exactly where I've been and have absolutely no idea where I'm going.
Abbreviated memoirs of my life and times in the big city I call home.
Lyrics
I grew up in Chicago, where the music is so blue.
I never did quite understand it, when I was still in school.
I'm doing what I can, I'm a windy city man.
You know I traveled cross the country, went from town to town.
Playing music for the people lord we layed that boogie down.
But the blues has a way of coming, coming deep from within the soul.
If I knew you then then you knew me when I played that rock and roll.
I'm doing what I can, I'm a windy city man.
And when I'm on the road today that feeling still holds true.
When I'm on the road I'm thinking bout coming on home to you.
I'm doing what I can, I'm a windy city man.
Then we headed down to Dallas, played the blues in New Orleans. Then we came back up through Memphis, rode the Mississippi Queen.
Back through Alabama, Muscle Shoals was nice and green, Indianola Mississipi to the birth place of the king.
I'm doing what I can, I'm a windy city man.
I went before the altar of the gods of rhythm and blues. I heard a sound and turned around and saw Muddy come into the room. He sat me down said son there's only one thing ya need to know.
Blues had a baby....they call it Rock and Roll
