This tune was written in 1973 by
Theresa Apple and was an instant
folk/rock hit in the underground indie
world. For 'The Road,' artist CT Apple
revamped the melody into a more future
funk/jazz vibe which evokes the same
emotional turmoil as the original, but
has a distinct contemporary sound. | MP3.com CD: "The Road" Original Tunes - buy it!

Story Behind the Song
REVIEW on November 27, 2001
Reviewer: Roger Stevenson from Key West, FL
Great for sex, working out ,or just chillin',
I gotta say, this is really well done stuff. What makes this tune so unusual is that although it has a backdrop of hip-hop and a techno vibe, the tune is VERY easy listening -- bordering on Lounge. And although CT's voice is outstandingly crooning, it manages to keep away from being "old" in style... I mean look at this guy, he ain't a grandad!
The Apple family must be really talented - I only hope they bred new Apples so that the talent can live on after CT and Theresa are long gone.
Lyrics
It's another lonely Monday
Though it's the middle of the week
It's another foggy morning
Though it's night and I can't sleep
The fog is rollin' in
Poundin' on my mind
When I look where love has gone
There's nothin' I can find
I wish that it had been a bad dream
That I hadn't played the scene
You were the one with all the cool
And me I played the fool
-- I wish that it had been a bad dream
-- I hadn't played the scene
-- You were the one with all the cool
-- And me I played the fool
It's a dreary day in Winter
Though Summer's sun burns bright
All around me's cold and dark
Though the fire here keeps things light
My puzzle falls in pieces
All around my feet
And the sight of loveless love scenes
Leaves me cryin' in my seat
I got lost in all the lines
Kept repeating meaningless rhymes
I said I'd make it whatever the cost
But I played the game
And I guess I lost
And I guess I lost...
