    Story Behind the Song
Things usually take three times longer to do than I plan, and cost twice as much. This is the story of Jack and of Jill who before they know it are grownups.

    Musicians: PL-acoustic guitar & vocals, Jeff Pevar-lead guitar, Dana Pomfret-vocals, Richard Downs-bass

    Lyrics
    Everything takes a little longer
    © Peter Lehndorff, BMI

Verse 1: Jill became a Girl Scout,
    when she was just Thirteen.
    She loved to wear uniforms
and she looked good in green.
By the time she had had enough
    She had just turned Seventeen
By a twist of fate, she was to late
    she was now a Marine.
    Everything takes a little longer.
    Everything costs more.
By the time Jill was Seventeen,
    She was twenty four.

Verse 2: Jack went down to Sears
    to buy a windshield wiper
They told him that he needed new tires
    new brakes and an alternator
They sold him a new battery.
They sold him a new muffler
They changed his plugs. And they changed his oil.
    And one windshield wiper.
    Everything takes a little longer.
    Everything costs more.
By the time Jack was twenty one
    He was thirty four.

Bridge thing 1: Time flies when you’re having fun. Time flies when you’re having none.
    Everything takes a little longer.
    Everything costs more.

    Break (Jeff Pevar)

Verse 3: Well, Jack and Jill they were friends
    when they were very young.
They fell in love and they went to the prom.
    They were married before long.
They’re still pretty happy. No problems.
    More or less.
But Jill takes a whole lot longer
and Jack takes a whole lot less.
    Everything takes a little longer.
    Everything costs more.
By the time they were Thirty one,
    they were Forty four.
Jack and Jill went up a hill
just to fetch a pail of water.
Mother Goose was on the loose and now they have four daughters.

FADE OUT: Everything takes a little longer. Everything costs more.
    Everything takes a little longer.
    Everything costs more.
    Everything takes a little longer.
    Everything costs more.
