Story Behind the Song
Recorded live at Chapters Robson May 9, 2002, dedicated to some guy leaving for Regina. This song has appeared in different forms on the No Fun albums "Snivel", "Hi, We're from the Gay Club" and "The Rich Folk Festival" and has long been a live favourite.
Lyrics
SaSKAtchewan (David M.)
My Mom and Dad are from Saskatchewan.
My brother took his first breath there.
But I escaped a similar fate.
Yorkton says “That's not fair!”
Joni Mitchell comes from Saskatchewan,
Though she is much to hip to admit.
Of most people born in this wheaty province.
The term 'unsophisticated' surely fits.
Saskatchewan.
Land of Wheat...
Saskatchewan contains few hillsides.
This prarie kingpin's flat as a book.
These buildings exist as resevoirs for grain.
Outdoor facilities equiped with Look.
Ah, Saskatchewan, Jewel of the Prarie.
You're the gateway to nowhere in particular.
People gaze holes in the August sun.
Life extends there.
Saskatchewan.
Land of Wheat...
Saskatchewan.
Land of Wheat...
Wheat, mon, it's the 'erb.
Regina.
Prarie 'erb elevator, mon.
Wheat come soon, mon.
Calgary Babylon will not seduce I and I.
The Path, mon – 'ighway One.
Jah she, I came, I saw... wheat.
Saskatoon Trenchtown very small, mon.
