"'The Corporal's Daughter' draws light to the band's vivid harmonies, which bounce through layers of chord progressions and airy moments that tingle at times and jingle at others." - New Times Broward-Palm Beach
"The band pushes the volume but never loses its subtle textures that paint the elegant, melodious portraits laid out by lines like 'I read about her in a book she wrote me / The corporal's daughter has a way with words / I dream about her in a way she taught me / The corporal's daughter has me dreaming.' Such slightly surreal lyrics help push BE's envelope and allow the band to stretch creatively without ever nose-diving into the pretentiousness that some over-achieving indie bands often find themselves in." - PopMatters |

Story Behind the Song
A lot of my lyrics originate in dreams. For example, I did not have a dream about a person called the Corporal’s daughter, but I actually dreamed the line “I had a dream about the Corporal’s daughter.” So a lot of songs start that way – with waking up, writing down a line and then wondering, “Wow, I wonder what that means,” or in the case of “The Corporal’s Daughter,” “I wonder who this person is.” Then it’s just a matter of letting that character take me along for the ride and listening closely to what that character has to say, or looking carefully at what they show me. The Corporal’s daughter was a good tour guide, so I didn’t have to work too hard. I like her a lot, so it was easy for me to be enthralled as she showed me around. She might be a part of me that I wish I could let out more, or she could just be a person I wish I could be with more often. She’s a dream girl who either lives within me or without me – maybe both.
