    Story Behind the Song
I wrote it in the summer of 1997 while on a super semi-tour with Strawbarry Levon drummer (Levon) and a cardboard cutout of Strawbarry Levon bassist (Mr. Boucher)in the bay area. It is a (typical) bittersweet anthem about being homesick and at the same time realizing there is nothing really worth going back to anyway.

    Lyrics
I just want you to know I mailed my postcards back to her. You should be getting one any day now. And I just wanted to tell you that I'm home now; even though I'm 500 miles away. 'Cause you and me, we were never that way.

And I miss those days you could fall in love in one night at the end of the steps to the skyway. And what would you say if I was never coming back of that I've been back for a week; I just didn't tell you.

I though I could fix myself if I destroyed my skin, but it didn't make it any prettier that way. And yes I'm sick again. I don't know what I ate this time. Driving on the 99, I swear I saw a car wash out here.

"Why can't this town be your town?" you say to me. "How does it take 90 minutes to find a pizza place?" But if I had to choose between two extremes I think I might keep you that way.

I just wanted to say that I found that donut box today. It made me think that maybe things are okay. But i ain't got no present yet. When I do I should gift wrap it. If you're lucky it'll be what you always wanted.

Maybe its you that's making me go. What if this time I have nothing to show? I just wanted to say that I'm home now. Even though she's 500 miles away, here I stay.
