Story Behind the Song
I have been dabbling in music for years, mostly as a drummer. Recently after joining a few friends to create a band in which to simply play for ourselves, I started playing keyboards. I quickly discovered the magic of MIDI and after teaching myself how to play basic structures, I began to experiment with composition. Most of what I have done previously was for my own enjoyment. But with One Giant Leap, I think it's a quality enough song for others to enjoy.
I recorded this song entirely on a MIDI-keyboard controller patched to my PC. I used a variety if professional level sounds and instrument samples to record this 12-track arrangement (including drums, percussion, bass, and several keyboard tracks). The result is a somewhat quirky art-rock, new age piece that goes from very quiet to loud and energetic several times.
Genesis, particularly their work in the 1970s, is a huge influence for me. You might see some of that influence in this song.
