Story Behind the Song
I was thinking of all the possible superpowers (invisibility, x-ray vision, telekinesie, etc.) and decided that the one I would want most is the ability to fly. I thought about why, and realized that it would mean being able to escape all my past mistakes. So I wrote a song around that basic idea.
Lyrics
Fly
Words and Music by Matt Slaybaugh
I want a rope to fall down from the sky, the sky.
Plant some magic beans and grow a ladder vine
I wish I could fly.
Leave this world behind
Driving fast to make illusions of escape.
Driving fast while driving you away, away
I wish I could fly.
Leave this all behind
Oh, won't you stay with me?
Oh, won't you say you'll be mine?
Now you see what it's done to me.
Rue the day I went away.
I don't know but I've been told:
Take a while, see you smile.
I am only less than half a superman,
but I will try to catch a bullet in my hand.
I wish I could fly.
Leave this all behind
My regrets are the better part of memory,
and they have a way of catching up with me.
I wish I could fly.
Leave this all behind
