Story Behind the Song
This song took quite a lot to write. It came from a partial tune I had worked on for a long time (about a year), but it would not gel. The only thing I had was the tune and the instrumentation. I then had just a few words "it's so wonderful to be here" an d that was it. It finally came to me to tell the story of a man meeting an old lover who used him, but he is finally over her - well, sort of!
The hardest part of recording was matching the tempo and timing of the individual instruments while keepin g a crisp, acoustic rhythm guitar without distortion or blending in too much. I also decided to go with the mandolin for the lead interlude. 16 individual takes on 8 tracks, stereoed in Pro trools free. Very slight reverb on the voice after recording (pos t), and a little bass boost to round out the vocals. Everything else was as recorded.nn
Lyrics
It's So Hard.
by Nathan Law
It’s so wonderful to be here,
But I don’t believe a word that you’re saying.
I don’t remember why you left me,
But I do recall the games that you were playing
Chorus:
It’s so hard; it’s so hard to fall in love
now you left me,
And I can’t believe the lies that you send me.
It’s so hard to fall in love with you again.
It’s so wonderful to know that,
when you left you really thought you had a reason.
And that when you set your mind on me,
that you would only be around for one season.
Chorus:
Lead interlude
Chorus.
