Hot off the presses, we just finished this with Yannis Fyssas at the helm. The song is the result of a collabaration between myself and Cheryl Catherine Smith. This song has been described by listeners as contemporary, haunting, Madonna/Enya reminiscent, "hooky" with a strong and catchy chorus. We see it as a synthesis of the new dance/electronica vibe with the old standard rock and roll written hook and chorus. Check out her lyrics, very moving. |

Story Behind the Song
It started with a melody line Cheryl had, a pre-chorus and her poetic lyrics. Her inspiration was to express the miracle of hope and healing after a very dark period in her own life - all dark places. She sang these for me and I grabbed my guitar. I found the chorus for the song, developed the pre-chorus futher and we moved ahead in a surprising collaboration that led to working on the demo with Tony Chamberlist (Glenda Rae) where I was able to co-produce with him and develop the song even further with a Revolution #9 solo spot. I felt the song needed a little extra "push" and knew the work of John (Yanni) Fyssas intimately. I had worked with him before and I greatly admire his work and his influence on the songs I had already recorded with him. John produced, mixed, mastered and added the answer back idea in the chorus, also developed the prechorus even further and placed alternate chords under the verse. The result is a song which we are all quite proud of.
Lyrics
There are places in my heart
From the space where love was torn apart
And these places are waiting for you
Unhealed spaces in my heart
From the place where faith and hope departed
Unhealed spaces are waiting for you
Pour on the balm of your love
Forgive the black-hooded man with the razor sharp tongue
Purify the desire that I seek
And consecrate my soul with your speech
All dark places have now come undone
Cracks of light bounce off a web new spun
Spiders dance to beats of chime bells rung
Healing hands release the rope I'd hung
Love-torn faces seek a heart
Knowledge basis, is this all that's Art?
And these faces are waiting for me
