	Story Behind the Song In October 1998 I began recording my second solo album, Gemini. What I know now but didn't know then, is that the process would linger on much longer than I could have ever anticipated. Now, over two years later, I'm finally putting the wrap on the majority of the music for Gemini. I'm proud to finally make available for listening and download several rough mix clips of songs from the new album. "I Can't Change Your Mind" almost never even got recorded. In our first week of tracking drums, we ended up having an extra day to work. My drummer and collaborator (and brother), Dave, asked if I had anything else to work on. As I paged through one of my "ideas" folders, I came across a sheet with a simple chord progression scribbled out. It was an idea I had jotted down about a year before. I told Dave I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with it. He said, "Just start playing it." Within 90 minutes of that moment we had a drum part arranged and recorded. To this day, it is still my favorite drum track Dave has ever played on any of my stuff. We left a spot before the bridge for an organ solo that both Dave and I deemed "the kind of thing Tommy Barbarella would play." Tommy is best known for his work with Prince & The New Power Generation and continues to be a fixture on the Twin Cities music scene. So, after guitars and bass were overdubbed (also my favorite bass track ever performed by my good friend and business partner Jeremy Ylvisaker), I called Tommy and he said he'd love to play on it. He captured the exact feel and sound I was looking for. I tracked vocals during the summer of 2000 at my studio, Soliton. "I Can't Change Your Mind" is scheduled to be released as a single shortly before the release of the Gemini album. This version is my first attempt at a "final" mix of the song.
