    Story Behind the Song
A few years ago I wrote 5 tunes over a 4 week period, each constructed off of the same chord progression. I don't think I played anything but those chords during those 26 days. Obsessed or possessed, that's for someone else to decide.

I fell in love with 5 different sets of lyrics over those same old chords. Each told a story of a time in one persons life.
    -or-
They spoke to the possibility that a person could be living in one moment of time (the chords) but experiencing 5 very different emotions (the lyrics) based on life's circumstance. I think the later is my true expression.

I never could pick my favorite. I very seriously considered releasing a record with just those 5 tunes. It is an idea that still compels me.

So far 2 of the 5 versions have been released to the public.
I Am, I Can, here and a song called Memory. Memory was hammered on and molded into a Power-Pop rock song with Jim Carey. Memory was then, later released by a band Jim & I were in, Loft (Listen to Memory on MP3.com). I have another acoustic version of Memory which differs greatly from Loft's released version. I'll dig that up sometime and post it online. It is interesting to hear that transformation as well.

I Am, I Can was the easiest, most consuming and painful song I have ever written. Those lyrics are tough. But, I just spoke out loud while laying down some pretty chords sitting on my couch. Letting time decide what to do about it...

    Lyrics
    I Am, I Can
From the CD "Steve Digre - Again"
    © 2002 Pea'sha Paradise.

    I was kind and thoughtful
    Creative, Intelligent
    Sometimes, I'm Funny
    I Don't Hate Art
    People or Races
    Babies Cars
    My Job or my Ex-life

I look in my eyes and see the pain inside
The last time my eyes will see the light

    I don't live for money
    I don't hold possessions close
But I feel like I'm wastin, wasting all my time here
    If life is a gift
Then what the hell am I giving back
    Every year that passes by
Another chance to change my life

I look in my eyes to find some peace inside
The last time my eyes will see the lies
    After Tonight
    Turn out the light
    After Tonight
    Turn Out

    I Am I Can
    I Don't I Do
    I Am I Can
    I Don't I Do

    I Am
