    Story Behind the Song
I had gone on a campout and was climbing up the face of a mountain. I had climbed quite a ways up when I looked above me. About 60 feet up was an eagle perched on an outcroping of rock by her aerie. We just sat there a moment, both looking at each other. All of a sudden, without any flapping, she stretched her wings out and "fell" into the high wind letting the current take her up, circling and still looking at me. This song is my thoughts of what is like from the eagle's perspective and from ours.

It must have been the perfect day
I spotted her and right away I saw it
    From the aeries hiding place
Springing up into the racing currents

    Outstretched and sailing
Through the clearness of the sky
    The whole world below her
Like a vision from her high, high home
    And the wilderness below
    From her high, high home
    Look upon the world below

    Crying out her freedom song
Would that I could come along and sing it
To the sun and back again
Fly away and teach a man to feel it

An appreciation for the wilderness and sky
    And an understanding
Of the creatures and their high, high home
    And the wilderness below
    And their high, high home
    Look upon the world below

From the eagle's home on high
Like a dream for you and I
    Crying out for freedoms' song
Would that I could come along and sing it

To the sun and back again
Fly away and teach a man to feel it
An appreciation for the wildness and sky
    And an understanding
Of the creatures and their high, high home
    And the wilderness below
    And their high, high home
    And the wilderness below
    And their high, high home
Fly as high as they can go
    And their high, high home
