A bittersweet piece of nostalgia for the months immediately preceeding a premature thrust into adulthood. Piano driven and very pretty.

    Story Behind the Song
This song represents a shift from the Ho-Chi-Minhs' usual sunny demeanor. Musically, it's the most complex thing we have ever done. Recorded in Los Angeles, California in April 2002.

    Lyrics
One thousand years ago I felt the breath of spring
    Before everything went black
    It was a perfect song
    The raging fires of dawn
And a feeling I could not turn back
It wasn't what I thought it should be
    More beautiful than life
More perfect than the world could pretend
Gone as soon as it came with heavy pounding rain
Holding her so tightly in the dark

One thousand years ago I tasted lips so sweet
That there are no words to describe
Electric thrill of touch that I had longed so much
Perfect eyes reflecting street light shine
    Explosive minutes stretched into days
    And sparkled with the heat
That burns the wick from sheathing wax
It lingers on in me, transcendent memory
And it haunts me like a ghost on ice

One thousand years ago the world washed away
    Under April's angry storms
Red roses gentle blooms cut down in swathes for you
I bled from clutching on the thorns
The clouds had draped a shroud on the sun
Cast a pall upon the world
    Like photographs in sepia tone
A world come undone, one final hymn-note sung
And the shadows on the sanctum door

One thousand years ago I felt the breath of spring
Now nothing but the winter's cold
A chill to saw through bone and thickened blood like stone
A jealousy gnawing at my soul
I stood for hours face raw from the wind
    Under dead Redeemer's eyes
    And mouthed tear soaked apology
But guilt cannot divorce white hearts in pained remorse
When magic dies upon the shores
