    Credits: Lyrics by R. Gerald - Music by R. Gerald, C. Spisak, C. O'Brien, A. Rothman

    Story Behind the Song
Basically, I wrote this song about a girl who is in love with a guy. She loves him and he cares about her, but it isn't enough...and even though it's the hardest thing for her to do, she is moving across the country to get on with her life - without him. I sort of had in mind that she was on a plane, looking out the window at night and watching each mile go by. In fact, I had a whole other verse before the first chorus which set that scene, but the song was way too long that way. The lyrics to that were "I can see lights from the night sky above, and one of them shines of a distant love. And as I pass over your patch of the sky, a year of emotion wells up in my eye. I close the blind and I clear my mind; I drown my tears in a drink. I open my eyes to unfamiliar skies and I can't stand to even blink..." Anyway, she leaves, but she still loves him...and even though she is so far away, it isn't far enough for her to forget what he means to her. She's sad. She doesn't really know how to begin a new life away from him and she doesn't want to. *sniffle sniffle* The end. =)

    Lyrics
    You gave me that "Days of Our Lives" stare;
you claimed that tomorrow you wanted me there.
But I couldn't bear to cry again,
so I packed in my pride and away I went:

out in the dark with half of my heart
I got on a plane and I left
the other half home - asleep by the phone -
I know you didn't think I'd really go

    away from you -
a thousand miles and counting -
    away from you,
    but still not far enough.
My heart is still beating 'cause your eyes can still see me -
how can I hide from love?
It's all that I can do
    away from you.

You're saying you're sorry but, baby, don't lie.
I can't take more meaningless words from a guy.
I'm not gonna die in your arms this time.
You're not gonna blind me with three dollar wine.

I'll unplug my phone - I'll stand on my own -
    I'll Calgon your kisses away.
I'll have to pretend when I talk to my friends
    that everything is still okay

    away from you -
a thousand miles and counting -
    away from you,
    but still not far enough.
My heart is still beating 'cause your eyes can still see me -
how can I hide from love?
It's all that I can do
    away from you.

    And there's something strange...
I can't go on without your touch,
and I just can't change my mind.
So, I close my eyes -
I see where you are and it's not too far -
but there must be more to find

    away from you -
and now there's no tomorrow -
    away from you -
    there's no more turning back.
My heart is still beating, but it feels like it's bleeding -
when did it get so black?
    There's nothing I can do
    away from you.
