    Story Behind the Song
The song was inspired by the need to keep the rose tinted glasses well away from your eyes with regards to oneself. You know face up to the truth of whoever and whatever it is that you really are and damn the consequences dammit !!!

The song was written on the way back from a gig where I had confronted some full-on criticism of my music and how it related to the kinda guy I was etc. After much soul searching I decided being me was infinitely more fun than the alternatives that had been suggested and thus the song was born.

The song was recorded along with twelve other songs as part of the album "AMBITIONS FOR DEEPER BREADTH". The album took a year to record and was record the tradional way ie Musicians recording their individual parts track by track.

    CLOSER
    Ola Onabule © 2001

Oh She’s Struttin'’ thru' her days, with a new song in her soul
And there’s no misery in the lexicon can harm her now
She’s in the strength zone and the zone’s in cruise control

Will She get to see the world of infinite possibles
Who can tell, It’s one of those solo mission things
    just gotta be done

Stand up and get closer to yourself
face your truth, that’s your wealth
And you won’t ever have to fake your smile again
And It’ll make you feel real good as good as you’ve ever could
stand up and get closer to yourself,
    You know it’s right

He was beating on himself, for dreams he could not realise
And this whole world he thought a weight Just made to drag him down
To where his faith could not materialise

Will he stop at fantasise or make it on to actualise
Who can tell, It’s one of those solo mission things
    just gotta be done

Stand up and get closer to yourself
face your truth, that’s your wealth
And you won’t ever have to fake your smile again
And It’ll make you feel real good as good as you’ve ever could
stand up and get closer to yourself,
    You know it’s right

Life can seek you out just to grief you out
Till you can’t remember what’s worth fighting for
Don’t let it smack you down, till hope runs aground
Get connected to what is best inside of you

    You’re moving
    Your star’s ascending
    Don’t let no wrong thing
    Closer to yourself

    Stay motivated
    Invigorated
    once elevated
    Closer to yourself
