The title song of the Black Rose Society Score, Soldiers Live is a haunting piece about a loss amongst a brotherhood of soldiers. |
CD: Soldiers Live
Credits: Words and Music by Christian I. Holston, Vocals by Amelia Kleymann |
Story Behind the Song
Soldiers Live, like many others ofits genre, was written in late September of 2001 and recorded in January of 2002. The overwhelming emotion produced by the attacks mirrored the feel that I had wanted for the piece from the very beginning, but had lacked the inspiration.
Lyrics
My brother's not coming home tonight
he charged through the darkness to fight the good fight
he stood on a wall to protect us from harm
and now my brother's gone
My brother's not coming home again
he swore an oath to serve and defend
guardian angels with wings dipped in blood
and now his work is done
After today, every fight's in your name
After today, things'll never be the same
My brother fell and I survived
soldiers live, and wonder why
My brother faced the darkness calling
his sword a fence to evil's will
none would aid his comrades falling
to the ground where they lay still
My brother purchased safety for us
the coin he used has stained the grass
and still they laugh at those who ride
heedless again of those who passed
After today, every fight's in your name
After today, things'll never be the same
why should we live and our bothers die
soldiers live, and wonder why
Your wife and your children wept at my feet
when I brought them the word
I swear to you they'll never be alone
this family takes care of its own
My brother took my place in line
He pulled me from eternity’s door
He boldly strode through in my place
To his fallen comrades’ embrace
After Today, every breath is for you
After today, my every step is towards you
Your name will be my battle cry
soldiers live, and soldiers die.
