A lament for Llywarch's son Gwyn, killed in his youth. "Were I blest he would have escaped". A short life may still be remembered and cherished, and have more impact than many that are longer. This piece is dedicated to my son Gerard, 1987 - 1999.

Story Behind the Song
This is part of my free interpretation of part of the Preiddeu Annwn, an ancient British poem in Old Welsh credited to the bard Taliesin. The author attacks christian monks for their withdrawal from the world and for their need to cling together to hear a canonical "truth" from an instructor - whereas real wisdom is multifaceted and experienced.
When I read the original poem, I was struck by the 6th Century dilemma that must have faced what had been a very sophisticated society - famine, plague and slaughter from invaders and cultural genocide from the new religion. This then is a musical profile of the last druids, as they watch the old British civilisation dissolve.
