    Story Behind the Song
The motivation for this song was strolling the streets of London and observing what struck me as a large number of homeless that not only were homeless, but also very young. Folks who should have been in college or going to their first job interview had already given up and were resigned to street life. Somehow, this scene had never quite struck me in the homeless of NYC or Boston or Philadelphia or DC, the cities to which I was most accustomed, as it did beneath the grey London sky. It was a tremendous feeling of helplessness, as it always is to not be able to help the sheer numbers of homeless on any direct level, but it was even more humbling to observe that it was my own generation which I couldn't save. I wrote Londoon in the Rain at my hotel room at 4:30 in the morning. London in the Rain expresses both my frustration at not being able to help all my brothers, and hopefully strikes and emotional chord with listeners. Interesting as it was our first collaboration, but it also features what I consider to be one of the most shining examples of Tucker's songwriting prowess, creating a driving, danceable, catchy ska rhythm which retains the fury of the emotions of the lyrics. Always used to close the Insults set.

    Lyrics
    Turn the corner, turn away
From Leicester Square during the day
    There's a storm rising up
    So get the Hell away

    Walking down the road
    I see a man, 20 years old
    He's sleeping in the street
    And it's getting damned cold

    There's a young man crying
    In London in the rain
    There's no superheroes flying
    In London in the rain
    People give up trying
    In London in the rain
    Humanity is dying
    In London in the rain

They're not hidden in the street
But ragged sheets obscure their feet
If you can't spare two pence
Just don't let your eyes meet

A young woman moans in pain
    No protection from the rain
Who to help, who to deny?
    And who can I blame?

    There's a young man crying
    In London in the rain
    There's no superheroes flying
    In London in the rain
    People give up trying
    In London in the rain
    Humanity is dying
    In London in the rain

    There's a young man crying
    In London in the rain
    There's no superheroes flying
    In London in the rain
    People give up trying
    In London in the rain
    Humanity is dying
    In London in the rain

    Heads buried in their arms
    Forbidden to sell their charms
They sleep in the Tube tunnel
    Hope they do no harm

Drop a coin, change for her
There's a boy on the next corner
    You can't be his savior
    Only be his mourner

    There's a young man crying
    In London in the rain
    There's no superheroes flying
    In London in the rain
    People give up trying
    In London in the rain
    Humanity is dying
    In London in the rain

    There's a young man crying
    In London in the rain
    There's no superheroes flying
    In London in the rain
    People give up trying
    In London in the rain
    Humanity is dying
    In London in the rain
