Story Behind the Song
In memory of Dawn Steel, President of Columbia Pictures, who died at the young age of 51, this song is a threnody to her life as heartfelt through the sensibilities and pathos of her husband. Dawn was responsible for such mega-hits as "Star Trek," "Flashdance," "The Untouchables," "Fatal Attraction," "Cool Runnings," and "City of Angels." Jim Grauer, the lyricist to Daniel Ho's haunting melody, knew Dawn in high school and remembers her fondly. The tragedy and sadness of two lovers separated by death rings resonantly and empathetically through the song, but we are lifted and inspired by the memory of their love.

DAWN'S SONG
MUSIC: DANIEL HO
LYRICS: JIM GRAUER
If I had one time,
To be with my love again,
One last time to say,
The ways that I care,
First I would reach out for her hand,
So that she'd understand,
Nothing meant more,
In my life,
Then her there.
Now the night draws near,
I know that it's time to go,
I can hear the angels,
Calling her name,
If they could here words I would say,
They wouldn't take her away,
But our live's sweet,
Memories,
Will remain.
What a time,
What a life,
What a love,
That we shared.
Looking back,
Let's rejoice,
In the joys,
That we had.
Still I know,
When I think,
Fondly,
Tears of loss,
Fill my eyes.
It's so sad,
When two,
So in love,
Say goodbye.

I'll remember you when,
Stars fill a summer sky.
I'll remember you when,
Rain gently falls.
There's nothing I will ever regret,
My love I'll never forget,
You were all that I lived for,
And adored.
If you asked,
Me to go,
Would I change,
In my way.
If I said,
All I know,
Is to love you,
And stay.
Nothing more,
Will explain,
Reasons,
Only tears,
That we cry.
And it's sad,
When two,
So in love,
Say goodbye.
From the start,
Like a flame,
Burning hot,
Our love grew.
But the time,
Showed us things,
Unresolved,
And we knew.
