Story Behind the Song
Originally written by Ben. The guitar and lyrics took and hour to write. The completion of the song was gradual over about a month.
Influenced by close friends who had heroin addictions and managed to come out of them.
Finished completely in the studio as Eric found it impossible to put solos to it.He decided
to put the solos on a seperate track which he hates doing. Did a fine job and then could all of the
sudden put solos to it during shows. The song took about 3 takes.
Lyrics
Johnny found himself trapped in another phone booth,
looking for that white line high.
He'd take a quick trip to the unseen,
and when the stars got too bright, he'd take another dive.
On his way down, Johnny got a glimpse
of the days he had to come and the days he wouldn't see.
The cross read, "Johnny rest in peace. From 1980 to Twenty-and-three."
So he turned back
And he fought the fire inside
He let the seed of courage grow
And decided not to die.
Live Johnny live.
Johnny kept on letting down friends
with plastic truth and transparent lies.
Being high made him think he was fine,
but he wasn't deep down you could see it in his eyes.
So he turned back,
And he fought the fire inside.
He let the seed of honesty grow,
And decided not to lie.
Live Johnny live.
So Johnny finally came around,
Decided not to lie and not to die.
He only wanted what most want: a little happiness.
He tried with every last inch of effort, he had something to give.
He had the courage to change his ways, and Johnny decided,
Decided, decided, decided to live
Decided to live
Decided to live
He let the seed of courage grow
And decided not to die.
Live Johnny live.
