Story Behind the Song
This is a live performance on the Kevin Matthews show on WLUP radio in Chicago. This was our first of many performances on Kevin's show. The studio was in the John Hancock building on Michigan Avenue just down the street from Oak Street beach. We jammed with Babe Winkleman (World famous fisherman from Brainard, Minnesota) in the green room after our last tune. The producer was pissed because Babe was supposed to be on the air but wanted to hang and jam with us!
I lived in a house with freight train railroad tracks going though the front yard. It would literally shake every wall and window in the house. We would watch it from the front bay windows and it seemed like you could reach out and touch it. At first it was hard to sleep but after a while it became a necessary, comforting sound. I had a hard time adjusting to not hearing it after I moved.
Lyrics
Well the midnight train, it goes rollin’ by my house everyday
Whistlin’ down the track, you can see it from the bay
And I can hear it from my bedroom all night long
As it rattles all my windows and my walls
Well the midnight train, it don’t care where it goes
It keeps rolling all night long
It keeps rollin’ on and on
Well she whispers in my ear, all the things I want to hear
And as she pulls me close, I can feel the earth below begin to move
And you can hear it from my bedroom all night long
As it rattles all my windows and my walls
Well the midnight train, it don’t care where it goes
It keeps rolling all night long
It keeps rollin’ on and on
