Story Behind the Song
Written January 2, 1987, late at night. Afterwards, I went to sleep! This version was recorded in September/October 1997 for the "Gimme Shoulder" CD. Basically, I just wanted to write a ballad in a Country Rock vein.
Lyrics
Goodnight, my baby, well I hope you're allright,
I've been worried for so long, but not tonight,
'Cause I'm free, you see, and I don't need no hangers-on,
And when the sun comes up, I'll be long gone
REFRAIN:
'Cause you always bring me down,
And I don't need you around,
No, you never understand,
And you never have any plans
Well, the time has come for me to go,
You say we're in love; but girl I don't know,
Things have changed; I can no longer see the light,
I think I'd better get out, while I've still got the time
