Every town I’ve ever been through has their very own character like Sideshow Sam. He may be missin’ a couple marbles but he’s harmless and often pretty interesting to talk to if you take the chance. Sam is the kinda guy that you suspect really did most of those things he loves to tell you about, just maybe not as fast, fancy or refined. He’s the kinda guy that always keeps you guessing and even though you may not always know what he’s talking about, you listen anyway. He gives real flavor to the place and it’s just never the same after he moves on.
CD: Lucky Like Me   Label: Independent
Credits: Co-produced by Rachel Sedacca and Jonathan Raffetto; w/ Randy Kizer on drums and "Hippie" Mark Searcy on harmonica

    Lyrics
He had a corner newsstand he sold dirty magazines.
He’d never look you straight in the eye he’d only look you in between.
He wore a handlebar mustache and his hair was long and grey.
Everything about him seemed dark and mean but he was smilin’ anyway.

Sideshow Sam we called him, we never really knew his name.
Sideshow Sam don’t you never go home?

Some say that it’s a faceless city but
I never could forget his face.
He paced up and down in this treeless town
always movin’ with a pinch of grace.
Makin’ the scene with his shoftshoe routine
to the pleasures of the passers-by.
With this little ditty that he sang so pretty
all the crowds he would mystify.

Sideshow Sam don’t you never go home?

He told his wild stories of far away lands
    from New Dehli to Mozambique.
I don’t know if it was a part of his show,
he was workin eight days a week.
A man of many faces, at home in many places says
“It’s time for me to move along”
Went to see him today with farewells to say,
    good ole Sam was gone.
