Lyrics
Sleep
Can it stand the test of time? Can it really say it blew you away? I can hide and seek just fine, but I want to stay inside today, because I’m practicing my air guitar you see, I want to be the one you play. I was born to be a rock star it just didn’t turn out that way.
I used to listen to the radio, under the covers so long ago, with a flash light and a horror book to help fight off the sleep. And I don’t sleep.
Everything you do comes back to you
It all comes back in time.
Will you let me sing you a line? Will you stick around to hear me play? Did you like it better that last time? I’ve been practicing it every day. The tennis racket worked just fine; helped me get down all of my moves. I’ve got a fake drum set to keep the time, but I’m gonna buy myself a real one soon.
I stayed up late to hear the radio, and sing along in my head, you know? Flash light beneath the covers to make shapes and avoid sleep. And I don’t sleep.
How’d I hold up over time? Was I ever the one you picked to play? Now everything seems just fine, even if it wasn’t the dreams I made. I should have practiced more air guitar so I could have been the one you played. I was born to be a rock star it just didn’t turn out that way.
All my dreams were on that radio, turned down low but set to explode. I have perspective now to finally want to sleep. And I don’t sleep.
