Story Behind the Song
The song captures three perfect days in Africa. I wrote it in a week having woken up one morning with the harmonies in my head. I developed the melody at work and sang it to my answerphone at home so I wouldn't forget it. Everyone who's heard it says it's the best. And it is!

Indigo Blue

The velvet night above us
Held a thousand stars or more,
And underneath their twinkles
I returned you to your door.
But closing my eyes wouldn’t bring the sleep to my bed;
There were stars very soon and the maddening moon in my head…
And there was you, and Indigo blue
And there was me going weak at the knees
And tongue tied, but inside
Feeling I could fly
Into the blue, the Indigo blue
Into the skies, the blue of your eyes forever;
I never, ever felt so high.
I didn’t think I needed
Any romance any more.
I’d built my heart a fortress
And I’d frozen up the door.
But you were the first one
To melt the snowflakes away,
And I knew that I had to be with you the rest of that day…
‘Cos there was you, and Indigo blue
And there was me going weak at the knees
And tongue tied, but inside
Feeling I could fly
Into the blue, the Indigo blue
Into the skies, the blue of your eyes forever;
I never, ever felt so high.
And now you are so distant,
Half a million miles away;
A second lasts a minute
And a minute takes a day.
I’m counting them all
‘Til I’m there in front of your face.
Until then I’ll remember that feeling, that time and that place…
When there was you, and Indigo blue
And there was me going weak at the knees
And tongue tied, but inside
Feeling I could fly
Into the blue, the Indigo blue
Into the skies, the blue of your eyes forever;
I never, ever felt so high.
