Story Behind the Song
I (tom) wrote this on the toilet, well most of it. It took about 10 minutes although I changed the lyrics a bit later. Technically I wrote all the lyrics and the chords but we credit all our songs to the collective unit that is Camp David. The motivation is a little abstract, I noticed all the rubbish and dereliction that lies behind people's houses as I was traveling on the train. But I couldn't write a whole song about it so it is a metaphor for the rubbish in our lives which we know is there and are comfortable with. Get it?
Lyrics
Cold; Bleak (comforting)
Watching morning TV chat shows every day,
They don't get much better.
I don't enjoy them and they seem to hold me back,
I should've sent that letter yesterday.
(i keep it close and i push it far away)
Look behind the houses, look behind the homes.
It's cold, it's bleak it's comforting; it's all I've ever known.
Do I want another promise, I don't know,
Never mind I'll tell you later.
I'm in a crowded room and still I feel alone,
Where do we stand when the ceiling falls in?
(i keep it close and i push it far away)
Look behind the houses, look behind the homes.
It's cold, it's bleak it's comforting; it's all I've ever known.
It's all I've had so it doesn't make me sad anymore.
I've got no friends, no foes, but that's just the way it goes
So what, so what, so what!
(i keep it close and i push it far away)
Look behind the houses, look behind the homes.
It's cold, it's bleak it's comforting; it's all I've ever known.
So what!
