Destined to be a Gallows Hill classic.

    Story Behind the Song
Some of you who still remember Sanguine Solstice (are there any still?) will know this one as it was first released through that project. Now it has been given new life (undeath? hahaha) with the breath of the lovely Lady Sable.

The lyrics are actually quite old; they were leftover from the fabled Othniel sessions. It started out as a poem from Anderson's archive, which I had finished soon after I wrote the lyrics to "Solace" (nothing like a heartwrenching breakup to provide inspiration, eh?).

Musically, this was first recorded during the Mar(tyr) Sessions. My big inspiration for the song was the Finnish band HIM. I wanted to come up with something similar to what they were doing just for the hell of it and it came out so well that I kept it. Then when I hooked back up with Anderson, I read the old lyrics to "Dead Love" and realized that the new song I recorded (it didn't have a name at that time) fit perfectly.

All in all, the tale of "Dead Love" is actually quite uninteresting. Thankfully, the song is not, for it has potential to be another Gallows Hill classic. Enjoy!

    Music by Gallows Hill

    I hide from the sunlight
    I shelter the rain
    I live in the shadows
    With nothing to gain

    I race with the wind
    The mist drags me down
As I walk through the streets
    Of the dark morbid town

    BRIDGE
Church bell chiming, ringing my ears
A common thing for these long dark years
A songbird sings, but I never hear
I haven't any time left for fear

    CHORUS
You say that you love me, but love is long dead
It never hath lived on the ground where I tread
My heart cannot beat, no response from above
My blood runs cold from this dead love

    I stand in the graveyard
    Of mystic lost souls
I am one of them now
    As the tower bell tolls

    I race with the wind
    The mist drags me down
As I walk through the streets
    Of the dark morbid town

    BRIDGE
This biting wind makes me numb
Forever I've waited for refuge to come
Like the mouse with naught but crumbs
To this starvation I must succumb
