This song addresses the age old questions: What is man? Who am I? Why am I here? For me, these questions began to be answered as I started a faith journey which led me to understand God's amazing love. |

Story Behind the Song
Several years ago, I read two books back to back that affected me deeply. They were "What is Man?" by T. Austin Sparks, and "The Singer" by Calvin Miller. All these years later, some of those seeds of thought congealed and grew into this song.
I do most of my writing in the pre-dawn hours and that is true of this song. I was sitting at our dining room table thinking back to a time when I had felt very empty and confused, afraid of life, afraid of death... a time before I understood how much God loved me. It still amazes me that God's love began drawing me like a magnet. (It still does.)
Now I understand that God sent his beloved son, the Dayspring from on high, into this messed up world to live among us and to make a way for us all to live in His peace.
Lyrics
Verse 1
What is man? What is man?
What makes You mindful of him? What is man?
Who am I? Where do I fit in Your plan?
What is man? What is man?
Chorus
Through times corridors
The love song of Your troubador resounds
And in the darkness
Many a candle has been found
To light the path
As the Dayspring from on high
Replaces emptiness with meaning
And fear has courage now to try
Bridge:
Love’s perfection like a magnet now draws me to Your side
Like a tender babe at rest, I’m completely satisfied
Verse 2
What is man? What is man?
Why did You give Your life? What is man?
Who am I to be included in Your plan?
Yet here I am. Here I am.
Bridge
Verse 3
I understand. I understand.
As Your word washes me, I understand.
I’m in You. This has always been Your plan.
To dwell with man. I understand.
Chorus
Repeat verse 1
Bridge
Repeat verse 3
