Why does it take an unfortunate tragedy like 9-11-01 before we realize how much as a society we have become desensitized to violence?

    Story Behind the Song
This song was written before the tragedy of September 11th 2001. But after the event, we couldn't see any other way to go with it. So this song is dedicated to all of the people who do not think the media can cause you to act a certain way.

    Lyrics
    Desensitized

Verse 1(J-Wal): Times runnin out so we declare war. Don’t want to open your heart I’m a kick down the door. Think your life is a game then I think it’s a shame.
When there circles been completed you ain’t got no one to blame. I’ve come in Jesus Name I’ve come to smother flames. That might burn your flesh I don’t do this for fame.
Cause in these last days I’m gonna fight for someone’s life. And if I lose mine I going home tonight. Yo what’s the industry evolved to? If I had to use a simile to describe it, I’d say it’s like Bellevue. Crazy, better yet I think it’s insane. And they won’t stop till they pervert every cell in your brain.
And no more usin subliminals, a secret coded message. To hide the real meaning, they come right out and says it. Life is all about money and sex and violence. That’s why we got kids just whillin. Takin artillery in their schools, killing they classmates.
Thinking from reality they got to escape. So they pop in the CD or the DVD. And they minds get programmed gradually. And they front like it don’t affect them yah they immune. To words and pictures that are sure to bring doom. And before they even get the chance to realize. In time to the dark side we’ve become desensitized.
Chorus: What’s goin on yall, we must open our eyes. Turn our attention to the sky.
The way this world is progressin, don’t act surprised we’ve become desensitized.
What’s goin on yall, we must open our eyes. Turn our attention to the sky.
The way this world is progressin, don’t act surprised we’ve become desensitized.

Verse 2(S.oL.): Are you immune to the things what’s goin on around?
I swear this world ain’t nothin but the devil’s playground.
If it wasn’t, for my loved ones that’s unsaved. I wish god would burn this whole world up today. And go back to bein eloquent. Do you think it’s relevant? That He’s comin soon cause this world is doomed.
You try to keep your kids safe in a little cocoon. But I heard a girl got mollested in her own classrom. Can’t even read the Akron Beacon Journal, without thinking about my wife and my two little girls and wonderin.
What this world is gonna be like in about ten years. You got kids home schooled cause their parents are scared. You got the media givin troubled teens ideas. And got kids at the age of five with no fears. You need to search yourself through. Do you get them same chills that you used to, or does it even occur? Or do you feel like anymore that this life’s a blur? And you wonder what’s the end from everything disturbed.
Does your heart hurt, does it really take your breathe? Do you react the same way or has the feeling left? When you hear a tragedy do you even cry? Wonder why?
    Or have you become desensitized?
Chorus: What’s goin on yall, we must open our eyes. Turn our attention to the sky.
The way this world is progressin, don’t act surprised we’ve become desensitized.
Verse 3(J-Wal): Emcees are not responsible for raising your kids. And that principle is true for anyone in the biz. At home is where the regulations need to begin.
Too many parents want to be one of their children's friends. Cause they don’t want to be the bad guy. What ever their kids want, they give it to em and respect gets ruined.
Accidentally pop in one of their discs throw a fit. Can’t believe what you hear.
Whose music is this? If you only knew what’s out their. Your kids are not prepared; the traps have been set by the enemy bet.
And the message rebel. Against your parents rebel. Against society rebel. Against authority rebel. One day you noticed a change in your son’s personality. And end up on Sally Jesse. Crying tellin her and the crowd about your son little Mitch. Who punched yah in the stomach and he calls yah and he calls yah. You need to switch.
Don’t be afraid to say no. Without water and light how are the seeds gonna grow?
Just ask the parents of Columbine if they mind. If you limit your kids access when getting on line.
