Story Behind the Song
Every nine seconds a woman is abused. We have an idea that abuse is a drunken low trash state of ignorance. Each day mothers, sisters, aunts, neices and friends survive abusive relationships in all socio-economic and cultural spectrums because their partners have serious problems, not because they are stupid or they "push his buttons." This song is straight from my heart. I did all the tracks. For information, please call the National Domestic Violence Hotline 1.800.799.7233 or www.NDVH.org. There is no excuse for abuse.
Lyrics
SHE PUSHES HIS BUTTONS
She’s always smiling ’cause she wants to please the man who says he loves her,
keeps her on her knees. She’s got sunglasses, Relafen and ice packs, too.
You think she’s stupid? She could be you.
chorus
She pushes his buttons. She pushes his buttons. They say she pushes his buttons,
every day, yeah yeah yeah that’s what they say hey. (Uh uh uh uh uh.)
You can’t see your own hair growing til it’s in your face. Stop blaming yourself,
get out of this place. You walk on eggshells. You do the shake-a-shake-of fear.
You know the only man with the power lives in heaven, not here.
chorus
What is abuse? Physical, emotional, psychological, financial, sexual abuse of control:
Constant criticisms, put-downs, isolation, extreme jealousy, name calling,
public humiliation, lies, menacing, threatening, raging, blackmail, financial control,
physically hurting you, using fear, any abuse of control.
Call a hotline. Save your life and your soul. Get a safety plan, an order of protection,
you have the right to be safe, no one has the right to abuse you.
Every nine seconds a woman is abused. Every nine seconds people are confused.
“She must have done something, I don’t know what to say.”
How ‘bout “nobody deserves to be treated that way.” chorus
