Story Behind the Song
Basically, the song really kind of wrote itself - I was kind of in a songwriting funk and just dinking around with this and it just came to me - the melody, chords, bridge, all just came in a matter of a couple of hours. The words kind of reflect the feeling Nick and I have been experiencing with the fact that the music business is such a rollercoaster of highs and lows. Ultimately, the music keeps us going...as it should. This is just an acoustic demo version of the song while we wait on recording a 5th album in the summer/fall 2002.
Lyrics
BROKEN
Come down on my soul
Take me everywhere, everywhere you want to go
But the ones who say I can’t
Are the reason that I dance
And I know dreams, don’t always make a lot of sense
Now I’ve got, a little something for you
And now I want, a little something new to do
And if I can be, the one to choose
Then I know, I’m not the only one who’s gonna lose
I feel, alone
I feel, better when I’m broken
I know, if I breathe a little smoke into your eyes
And I know, ‘cause it doesn’t take a lot to make you smile
And I try, just a little harder when I hit the ground
And I’m high, every single day when the sun goes down
You’re the pain on my soul
And the light coming through the door
