A straight ahead pop song about presidents, cowboys, and pop stars. It's about the power of dreams being in the dreaming, and not so much in the coming true.

    Story Behind the Song
The President's Song is not about Bill or Al or George Jr. (thankfully). It's about the power of dreams being in the dreaming, not so much in the coming true.

The music for President's Song was completed by Ron O'Brien, Walk Don't Run guitarist, well before the lyrics had been written by drummer and vocalist Pat Tambor. In fact, the lyrics were mostly created in "real time" during a band working session.

Trivial Fact: Sleep is referenced in all three verses by each main "character". Dreams, sleep, yeah I get it.

    Lyrics
I wish I were the president
    I'd roam the halls
    sleep in Lincoln's Bedroom
    Give my friends jobs
it would be so much fun
    if you could come along
meet you and all my friends
    on the South Lawn

    I wish I were a cowboy
    out on the plain
    sleep under the star light
    home on the range
    under the big hot sun
    with my hat on
    singing country songs
that go la la la la la

    it's not hard for me
to do these things I say
    I become each one
    every single day
    the secret of life
is a dream that can't come true
it helps me to carry on
in all the things I do

    I wish I were a pop star
    on MTV
    sleep until the afternoon
    folks would like me
    shoot straight to number one
    singing hit songs
    and every single one
would go la la la la la

    chorus repeats
