    Story Behind the Song
    One of three songs written
specifically about the cofeehouse scene. Picture the heckler
and the lack of attention paid to the guy on stage.

    Lyrics
In the corner a poet sang from his heart
Around him the clouds barroom steam
What flowed from his lips could change the whole world
And uplift those who would hear it

And the jester kept up in his usual way
The point of the poet interrupted again
Which happens most frequently when one's to be made

    Twenty onlookers sat staring astray
Only five understood what was happening
One bowed his head into a book
All but giving up for the sake of the time
Another walked out and erased from his mind
The sight that he'd seen shut behind him
One in the back waived down a waiter
He'll forget before long, bring me another
And the two left remained alone beside
A shelf of books and window blinds

    For what's outside doesn't count
While watching the play unfold around and the jester kept up in his usual way
The point of the poet interrupted again
Which happens most frequently when one's to be made

While outside in the car the first meeting adjourned
Of the free thinking pessismists uplifitng
For it's not anti-social if there's more than one
And there was seating for five in this auditorium
They spoke of the world and then what was real
    Avoiding confusion of persuading ideals
And never discussing the plot hole on how they came to be here

For here they could hide from the jester
    and wouldn't be interrupted
