Story Behind the Song
This track was written when I was seventeen, but is recorded for the first time here.
It's about a bloke that is having a secret affair with another woman, and is generally getting a bit hacked off with the 'secret, behind everyones back' kind of thing.
He's waiting for this woman to show up, wondering if he's wasting his time...
All recorded on a Pentium PC, using Jammer for Windows for the backing, and DataBeckers Music Centre for the vocals and guitar stuff.
All takes are one take. The lead guitar is one continuous take, second take. I used a Line6 POD for the lead guitar.
Lyrics
I stand here by the river, distant car horns call.
Dim old street lamps beckon me, casting shadows on the walls.
And as this old town quietly sleeps, I can see your bright headlights.
And I can see you're driving my way, I won't be going home tonight.
Well it's kind of fun meeting in secret like this,
But sometimes it leaves you feeling all alone.
I get kind of crazy when I want to hear your voice,
And I can't call you on the phone.
Still I'm grateful for the time that you gice me,
And the spare space left in your heart.
But is it always gonna be like this - spending so much time apart?
Break:
Elation, desperation, different words but they mean the same.
I'm tired of midnight meetings, and playing these silly games.
Six months down the line, will you still remember me?
So I stand here by the river, cold and shivering in the rain.
You didn't see me on your first drive by, so I'll wait for you to go around again,
But you drive into the the distance, and disappear into the night.
And the only thing you left me, are these dim old street lights.
