Story Behind the Song
For us who travel far from home, the lure of these islands is strong. I wrote this after a phone conversation with my daughter, who was living in San Diego, missing the warmth and beauty of home. It got me to think how we sometimes alienate ourselves from our roots, forgetting the comfort and strength that it gives us
Lyrics
Why do you run from me,
I've chased you all of my life,
I can't let you slip away,
now that the time is right.
Passion lies deep in my heart,
the thrill of your touch sends me sailing.
Wandering high above the clouds,
falling like rain onto the ground.
Hawaiian rain keeps on falling,
gently it washes my soul.
Sing me a song of the Islands,
rock me in your arms gentle shores.
Softly the sun breaks through the clouds,
flowing over the land,
I feel the warmth of it's rays,
now my eyes clearly see.
I've come home to rest my weary bones.
Traveled soles that wandered aimlessly,
dancing in the waves that wash the sand,
Pacific wind is blowing through my hair.
Hawaiian rain keeps on falling,
gently it washes my soul.
Sing me a song of the Islands,
rock me in your arms gentle shores.
