Story Behind the Song
Open to interpretation. I was inspired by a few different events.
Lyrics
VERSE 1
I feel so alone gazing up in the night,
Can't shake the feeling that something ain't right..
I've come out from the frying pan and into the fire,
The only thing I'm missing is the prison attire..
Can't forget how I fled,
It tore pieces from me and I bled,
As I cast off from the old....in search of the new...
CHORUS 1
I try to smile but I can't pretend,
Thought I'd start healing at my journey's end,
But I'm no more than money to spend on a free ride....
The grass is supposed to be greener on the other side...
VERSE 2
My mother passed on just the other day,
Couldn't bear to look in her eye as her soul ebbed away,
She told me to run and not to question why,
I never got to give her my last goodbye...
Had to leave her behind,
To restore my faith in mankind,
But now that I'm here...... I even question myself...
CHORUS 2
Back in the old land we lived in fear,
And the price we paid for freedom was dear..
They said we could wipe the slate clean here but they must have lied....
Cause they said the grass would be greener on the other side...
SOLO
CHORUS 3
No I wasn't hoping for hot spas
And I never expected five stars,
But to end up locked away behind bars oh it hurts my pride....
The grass don't seem any greener, the grass sure don't seem greener on the other side....
